UV254 Probe Trial with Dwr Cymru

Existing DOC analysers are often expensive, maintenance intensive and difficult to own. An alternative being explored by Dwr Cymru is to be UV254 measurement as a surrogate for DOC, creating a calibration for each site.
Pi’s UV254Sense Probe, (which is currently being trialled by Dwr Cymru as a substitute for their existing DOC analysers) is a viable alternative because:
- It has no moving parts – less maintenance
- It uses LED technology – no bulbs that will blow
- It has a self-cleaning system with no brushes or wipers – no motors or seals that need replacing
Pi’s Sales Director Dr Rob Paramore and Municipal Account Lead Steve Anderton recently visited the site where the new UV254Sense Probe was installed and in consultation with Dwr Cymru, concluded that the amount of solids coming in with the sample was interfering with the readings. Dwr Cymru opted to add on a back flushing strainer unit from Pi to this system. The UV254 sample strainer prevents fouling of the UV254Sense Probe from suspended solids in the sample water by periodically using compressed air or clean water to remove dirt from the straining element. Following the upgrade, the system is working well and a positive outcome of this trial is forecasted.
