Particle Counter Calibration Supports Membrane Performance for Bristol Water
Pi recently carried out the annual calibration of particle counters across five water treatment works, incorporating membranes, operated by Bristol Water, supporting reliable particle monitoring and efficient filter performance.
The sites, which use cartridge-type membrane filtration systems, rely on accurate particle counting to detect membrane breakthrough and determine when filters need replacing. Regular calibration is essential to maintaining that accuracy and ensuring operators can make informed decisions about membrane maintenance and water quality.

Pi engineers visited the Alderley, Chelvey, Forum, Frome Town, and Oldford treatment works to complete the scheduled calibration. Pi also provided routine training to Bristol Water’s operations staff, reinforcing best practices for particle data interpretation and system maintenance.
Bristol Water’s instrument division has worked with Pi for many years, requesting annual calibration to maintain confidence in the particle counters’ performance. This ongoing collaboration helps extend membrane life, reduce unnecessary maintenance, and ensure consistent water quality.
