Turbidity Analyser Applied to Lithium Battery Electrolyte Production
Pi’s TurbSense® turbidity analyser has recently been successfully applied in the production process of lithium battery electrolyte, demonstrating its versatility beyond traditional water and wastewater treatment applications.

An online liquid lithium hexafluorophosphate concentration monitoring system incorporating Pi’s TurbSense technology has been installed at a lithium battery manufacturing facility. The system enables continuous, real-time monitoring of lithium hexafluorophosphate concentration while withstanding the strongly corrosive characteristics of the electrolyte solution. The sensor’s corrosion-resistant construction and specialised installation kit eliminate the need for frequent maintenance, providing a stable, low-intervention solution for process control.
In lithium battery electrolyte production, maintaining the correct concentration of lithium hexafluorophosphate is essential for both quality and efficiency. As this solution is highly corrosive and prone to rapid precipitation, the materials and design of the turbidity sensor and its installation method are critical.
In this application, Pi’s TurbSense turbidity sensor is installed in a reactor containing the lithium hexafluorophosphate solution. Laboratory testing confirmed a linear relationship between lithium hexafluorophosphate concentration and turbidity, allowing the process to use turbidity monitoring as a real-time indicator of concentration. This enables operators to make precise process adjustments and maintain consistent product quality.
Pi’s distributor in China, Huzhou IMP, commented:
“Pi’s TurbSense has proven to be an ideal choice for turbidity measurement across many industries. With its corrosion-resistant materials and flexible installation options, we can now extend TurbSense into even more challenging applications.”
This application highlights how Pi’s TurbSense turbidity analyser can be adapted for advanced process monitoring in industries beyond water treatment, offering high stability, minimal maintenance, and accurate measurement in harsh chemical environments.
