Online Conductivity Meter Installed to Monitor Pure Water Production
Conductivity is the ability of a solution to transfer (conduct) electrical current. The value of the electrical conductivity is dependent on the ability of electrons or other charge carriers to move within a liquid. The inverse of this is resistivity. Resistivity describes the ability of a solution to resist electrical current.
Pi was recently approached by a pure water producer who was struggling with their existing conductivity meter. To be as ‘pure’ as possible and stay within compliance limits, conductivity of pure water must stay below 1µS/cm. Measuring such low levels can be very difficult and unreliable with most conductivity meters on the market.

ConductiSense graphite probe
Fortunately, Pi’s online conductivity meter has the ability to measure conductivity from 0 – 2,000,000µS/cm. The CRIUS®4.0 ConductiSense controller has the ability to measure conductivity but output readings in resistivity, and for niche measurement ranges such as in this application, this functionality of the CRIUS®4.0 is unique in the market.
As this application required measurements of low conductivity, a graphite probe was installed as opposed to toroidal or stainless steel options. The ConductiSense graphite probe has a measuring range of 0-5000µS/cm and can withstand pressure up to 7.5 Bar. The durable epoxy body construction makes it rugged and dependable. It also has a low cost and can be calibrated in place or in a separate container.
The system was shipped with all of the conductivity settings programmed and ready to use. To make installation even easier, push fittings were also shipped, allowing the new online conductivity meter to seamlessly integrate with the existing pipework. Alarms were also added to alert users when the sample exceeds the tolerance limits.
ConductiSense probes are an excellent choice to use as a standard online conductivity meter in a wide range of applications. For more information, please call us on 01282 422835
