Online Streaming Current Monitor Installed in China

At Process Instruments (UK) Ltd. (Pi), our mission has always been to help water companies around the world gain tighter control over their treatment processes. A recent collaboration between engineers from our Pi China office and our mainland Chinese distributor, Huzhou IMP, highlights this mission in action.

The teams met in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province to finalise the commissioning plan for a new installation of the CRIUS®4.0  StreamerSense online streaming current monitor at a major local water treatment plant. This unit is part of a larger rollout, with dozens of StreamerSense units now in operation across mainland China.

A Growing Footprint in China

Since entering the Chinese market, Pi’s StreamerSense units have been installed in nearly every province and autonomous region, excluding only Tibet and Qinghai. This rapid expansion demonstrates the universal appeal of accurate, real-time coagulant control for water utilities striving to improve operational efficiency and water quality.

Why Use an Online Streaming Current Monitor?

Coagulation control is a critical part of any water treatment process. Coagulants work by neutralising the surface charge of suspended particles in raw water, allowing them to clump together (forming flocs) and settle out, to be removed. Dosing coagulants correctly is a delicate balancing act. Overdosing not only wastes chemicals but can lead to poor floc formation, while underdosing results in insufficient treatment and turbidity breakthrough.

That’s where the StreamerSense online streaming current monitor comes in. By continuously measuring the streaming current, it provides real-time data on the net charge of the water. This lets operators know instantly if they are adding too much or too little coagulant and allows for immediate adjustments.

In most Pi installations, the StreamerSense is directly linked to automated dosing control systems, meaning that the analyser doesn’t just monitor the process, it actively controls it. This closed-loop control ensures optimal chemical dosing 24/7, reducing cost, chemical usage, and environmental impact while maintaining compliance and performance.

For operators and engineers, the benefits of using an online streaming current monitor like StreamerSense are clear:

  • Real-time coagulant control
  • Reduced chemical consumption
  • Improved water quality stability
  • Enhanced operational efficiency
  • Automation of a traditionally manual process

If you are operating a municipal treatment plant, the CRIUS®4.0 StreamerSense online streaming current monitor could help transform your operation.
